Tourists are beginning to arrive in Kovalam, mostly from India but also Europe. The beach is a big draw, along with beautiful sunsets and fabulous freshly cooked fish curries.
The local fishing boats are assembled and dismantled each day. The component parts are left to dry out at the top of the beach overnight. There is a Y shaped block of wood at each end that holds the boat together. Obviously it is on no way waterproof, it simply floats in the bay.
Eventually got round to the lighthouse. It has a snazzy new lift, but it’s not much good if you’re stuck in there during a power cut! We prized the doors open and went up the traditional way; it was great to get the sea breeze and glorious views at the top.
Took some shots of the bay with a full moon at night and the lighthouse illuminating the scene. Paddling in the shallows with the warm water trickling through your toes. Magic.
Fresh fish, just caught and laid out in front of the restaurants. Fantastic Keralan cooking and a cold Kingfisher.

Thank you Anne. I hope you enjoy following us, you stalker! We only have a few days left here, off to the Maldives Sunday. People here are lovely, though worried about tourism, due to the currency crisis (see our blog on beer and money ). I hope it picks up for them over the next month.
So seasons greetings to you dear friend, much love and ‘speak’ again in the new year! Have a fantastic 2017🍾☺🍾
